The City of Kirkland and its residents received great news this week when the Surface Transportation Board denied the request by Ballard Terminal Railroad to block the rail removal along the Cross Kirkland Corridor. The city purchased a 5.75 mile stretch of land from the Port of Seattle back in April 2012 with plans to create a border-to-border pedestrian, bicycle, and transit corridor connecting people to their community. The decision by the board will allow the city to move forward with the removal of the rails and begin construction of an interim trail extending from 108th Ave NE to 132nd Ave NE.
